Autumn Bag
Gosh, it’s hard to believe that it has been nearly a month since my last post.  My trusty laptop began to capriciously shut itself off willy-nilly, so in with the new! New laptop, and still migrating files and programs.

I did manage to get the handpainted plainweave off of the loom, and it whispered that it wanted to become a bag. This lead me to a bead shop where I found gorgeous glass beads in various leaf shapes, as well as a hand forged abstract pendant piece that when combined with some of the glass leaves will do very nicely for a  mock clasp. I’m very pleased with the progress so far.

Autumn is my favorite season, and the colors and feel of this bag (in progress) reflect that. Its texture reminds me of warm sweaters.  The colors are putting me in the mood for lighting the fireplace, and tossing in a handful of crunchy leaves to bring forward the aroma of long ago bonfires.

My current snag, is whether to use part of the material (as there is plenty) to make the sides of the bag and then fashion a strap or handle out of some other material. Or to get some loden or pumpkin colored cotton velveteen and quilt the sides and strap out of that — with perhaps some simple crewel vine/leaf patterns added. . .  I’ll just let my brain work on it in the background because my 80 year old Irish Auntie has decided that this week shall be her annual visit, and she’s arriving tomorrow.

I’m sooooo in the mood to weave! The air is cool, the aspen are turning a brilliant gold, and I’m back to baking breads and making soups and stews. There’s something so wonderful to me, about sitting at my loom while a bowl of bread is left to rise on the counter and a pot of soup is bubbling on the stove. Could life be any better? I think not.

Rather than mulling spices, however, I am still mulling over what towels to make and I have to get on with them pronto — as the holidays are rapidly approaching. I’d also like to get some bookmarks and card motifs done, and perhaps some scarves or small bags.  So — my thought process is towels on the floor loom, scarves on the Baby Wolf, and bookmarks and card motifs on the table loom.

Autumn, has always been a time of reflection for me. In a way, like those last moments before sleep, where some of my best ideas take shape.  I know that the looms will get dressed, the gifts will be woven, and that winter will be here before I know it — with new ideas, more to learn, and more time to catch up with all of my friends in the weaving blogiverse.

But now, I simply must go and air out the guest room, and get ready for my beloved Auntie.

Weave like an Egyptian,
Jane
